Roadtripping alone through Nicaragua

Between 2 busy work gigs I decided to take a little trip through Nicaragua to a bunch of places I’d never been.

I tried to make a fun video to capture the spirit of it, after review and edits I’ve realized that actually you need WAY more footage than you think to make a good YouTube video.

I’m not thrilled with how this video came out. The color grading is a mess. The content, a little boring. There was so much I DIDN’T film! The scenery, the hilarious obstacles with Nicaraguan road maintenance, the sunset beachside bars full of local fishermen, the people I met along the way and well, general B-roll.

I’ll try to do better next time! I’ve also realized that creating YouTube content is REALLY hard when you’re also trying to create instagram content, do it all yourself AND have a vacation at the same time! That being said, the main purpose for this video was to show you the beauty of Nicaragua! I wanted to show the world that Nicaragua IS a super safe place for a woman to travel to alone. It is totally okay to road trip through Nicaragua as a solo female traveler. If I did It, anyone can.

But here it is…

More about the places I stayed:

I made a couple of reels about the places I stayed. None of this is sponsored! I paid my way through this entire trip, I just wanted to share with you some really great places to stay in Nicaragua.

99 surf lodge, Popoyo

RIGHT on the beach and walking distance to some really great breaks! This place is so lovely. The food is also amazing. 99 Surf Lodge boasts a tavern with really delicious eats. They also do a special beachfront dinner, picnic style and candlelit in the sand.

Alive Beach House, El Transito

Full of very cute details, alive beach house is also RIGHT on the beach, this time in the adorable town of El Transito. Just a few minutes walk away are the gorgeous tide pools of El Transito. Such a great spot to lounge!

Surfing Turtle Lodge, Las Penitas

Getting here is just as fun of an adventure as the stay is! From Las Penitas, you have to take a small boat ($1) and then a horse cart to actually get to Surfing Turtle Lodge. It’s definitely rustic but has an amazing vibe. It is a fantastic spot to relax and recharge, being so remote. You have an ENTIRE beach for MILES to yourself.

Gear:

I filmed this entire video on my iPhone 13pro. Here is some of my gear. It’s all linked! Just click on it!

This tripod is SO convenient! Retractable, light weight and easy to store. Some of the best $25 you can spend!

Morning pages journal to start your day off mindfully

GOOD face sunscreen is necessary. I like Sun Bum’s face stick. It’s reef sensitive.

The Northface rolling thunder is quite frankly THE BEST carry-on luggage I’ve ever owned. Durable, waterproof, incredible. I’ve also linked a much less expensive bag- the samsonite version next to it.
