Maine Yoga Roadtripquill-hill-35-of-47We set out on our Northeastern adventure, headed to chase surf, visit friends and whale watch in the maritime provinces of Canada. The drive was far and long so I looked at a map to see what might be directly between Montreal and Nova Scotia: The great state of Maine.

As a child I spent all of my summers in Maine, playing outdoors with my family then attending and later working at summer camps. Returning for the first time since age 17 felt like a homecoming. The smell of fresh pine, the boggy areas near the ocean, the rural freedom of it was totally healing to my soul.

We stayed at the Spillover Motel. An absolutely spotless and quaint family run abode in the adorable town of Strattonbrook, Maine. Our room boasted an electric fireplace that heated us up in a jiffy, and crisp white linens with fleecy plaid throws that made us feel like we were entering our own little cabin. Out the window were great views of mountains and the sweeping greens of the Spillover’s own grounds. Perfect for yoga in the morning and stargazing at night.  In addition, Spillover offered us free hot and healthy breakfast including a variety of teas and assorted oatmeal. There was a communal kitchen, outdoor barbecue, Xfit style gym in the basement but most importantly the kindest and friendliest staff I have ever encountered.Lauren Rudick Yoga Handstand wearing Climawear on the Appalachian trail, Maine

We took advantage of everything we could in the area. We climbed a mountain on the Appalachian Trail, snuggled by a secluded lake to watch the sun go down. We went canoeing on Flagstaff lake where we spotted loon, herons and beavers drove to the so scenic Quill Hill to watch the sunset. We woke up way before dawn to watch some moose eat their breakfast and even passed an honor system, raw, local ice cream shop on the way.Maine Yoga Roadtripspillover-1-of-8spillover-20-of-23Lovers lake snuggle Maine Yoga Roadtrip

That’s the thing about Maine- it welcomes you as you are, invites you in and releases you gently, more humble and refreshed than before. Thank you Maine, I fell back in love with you  and a little deeper in too with my special friend Laurie.
